Translation

The Health Age software can be easily translated into a new language. You can edit an existing translation as well. Simply go to Settings and check the box Activate Translation Menu.

Then a menu with translation options will appear on the input screen. If you want to edit an existing language, select which language you want at Translate/Set Language. The language with the check mark is the active one. For translating a new language, go to Translate/Set Language/New Language.

A dialog will appear to enter some key data of this language.

Character Set: Select here which character set is used for your language. The regular character set for the Latin alphabet is Western, but Baltic and Central European are two other Latin character sets used for most Eastern European languages.

English Name: Put in here the name of your language in English.

Locale Code: Use here the code used by windows for this language. It is the same code that is used for identifying your keyboard:

Decimal Separator: Within the US the dot is used as the decimal separator (e. g. 12.5), most European languages are using the comma instead (12,5). Use whatever is appropriate in your language.

For editing this data later on, go to Translate/Basic Settings.

Next you should translate the recommendations printed in the printout. Simply go to Translate/Printout. A dialog will appear that gives you all the phrases in English and a field underneath to put in the translation.

Local Name: Put in here the name you use for your language in your local language.

Recommendations: Translate each of these phrases. If any phrase is longer than to the red line, it needs to be split up into two lines in the printout. Put in the following tag wherever you want to have the line break: <br>

There are several places on this and following places where square brackets are used. This is used as a placeholder for numbers or measurement symbols, that might change. Just put in this brackets into your translation and don't worry what is inside. Anything within the brackets will be replaced for the actual numbers and/or measurement unit. For example the phrase:
Achieve a healthy weight<br>between [xx] and [xy kg]

will be printed as follows:
Achieve a healthy weight
between 61.2 and 76.3 kg

If you switch to the US measurement system it will print like this:
Achieve a healthy weight
between 139.1 and 173.2 lbs

Measurement Symbols: Put in here the symbols used for kg and cm. Most languages will use the same abbreviations, but for Cyrillic languages they need to be translated to Cyrillic. In case that the US measurement systems are used in your language, be sure to give the commonly used symbols for inches and pounds as well.

Sex Key Codes: These are the keys you will use to enter the sex in your language. In English they are m for male and f for female. Please enter these keys in lowercase.

If you want to translate the user interface as well, continue with User Interface and User Interface II in the translation menu. Just translate all the phrases you find there to the appropriate phrases in your language. Use proper punctuation like colons, as you see in the original English phrase. Be aware that the length of the phrases is limited and there is a maximum length it will allow you to type.

Once you have translated everything, test out the software with your translation. The Language menu will allow you to quickly change the user interface language. Every time you make a change, be sure to reload your new translation there. Check especially for the following:

• Tab through all the fields and see if the explanations for every field show as expected.
• Try to type in the Number 1 for Age, Weight, Height and Body Fat. Each time you will get an error message. See if that translates appropriately.
• Press Compute Onscreen without entering any data. See if the error message is appropriate.
• Press the Settings button and see if all the captions translate properly. Also check the drop down fields for Paper Size and Print Quality to see if all the options are translated correctly.

Passing on the Translation

Once you have finished and tested your translation, please send us a copy as well. We will make it available on the web site and include it in future distributions of the software. Just write an email to support@HEResources.com.

Then select the following file as attachment: 
HealthageLang.lang

You will find it at:
Program Files\HER\Healthage.

This file contains the data of all your translations.
